Objective(s):
- The students will describe what a neighborhood is by identifying places and things that are found in a neighborhood.
- The students will use provided wood blocks, paper, stickers, and additional materials to create a representation of a building in a neighborhood (examples: house, apartments, shops, etc.)
- The students will use the toy cars provided and the “road” on the floor to get from one neighborhood location to another.
Materials:
wood blocks of various sizes; adhesive foam; adhesive felt; ribbon; glue sticks; cardstock (of various colors)
Activity:
The students will first name/identify types of buildings and other features (such as trees, roads, etc.) found in a neighborhood. The students will then choose a type of building to create as part of the neighborhood. Using the materials provided (located on top of the shelf) to decorate/create the block, the students will make a representation of a neighborhood building. Once the building has been created, place it on one of the neighborhood “blocks” (the resonance boards). The students will then use the toy cars provided to travel around the neighborhoods.
