                                                          Giant Bird's Nest

Objective:  Identify animal homes

Materials:  tarp or sheet to place items on,  raffia, craft straw, sticks, feathers and other items related to a birds nest, plastic egg, toy bird.

Activities:

This giant bird's nest was recreated in the classroom by using raffia, and other types of dried grass. Student's discussed "Animal Homes" and all took part in the steps it takes a bird to create a home. Materials such as straw, sticks, feathers, leaves and dried grass were placed around the room and the students worked on bringing each item they found to one common place.  Once the nest was completed, students took turns being the bird, sitting in the nest, exploring the eggs, listening to recorded bird calls.
