Let's Play Toy Guide
Let’s Play Toy Guide
Each year, The Toy Industry Foundation, in conjunction with The Alliance for Technology Access and The American Foundation for the Blind, produces “Let’s Play”, A Guide to Toys for Children with Special Needs.
This is a great guide for parents and special friends who are looking to purchase toys and educational products that are suitable for children with special needs. Most of the toys can be found at local stores, which is also a plus when recommending purchases for family members. In the guide, each toy is pictured, described and then a couple of notations are listed. First is an approximate cost of the item. Then, the type of play skills the toy encourages is listed. Lastly, there’s a notation for “physical impairment”, “hearing impairment”, “Blind or low vision”, and “developmental disabilities” to indicate suggested disabilities that the toys may be appropriate for.
You can request copies of the guide by email to the American Foundation for the Blind at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by calling 1-800-232-5463. Here at MSB, we’ve requested a bunch of these to hand out at workshops and to have on hand for parents/family members.
