Take me out to the Ballgame
Well it's that time of year again... time to head out to the ballpark and enjoy a great game of baseball. Students can learn the game of baseball by participating in a game of their own. When planning gross motor activities, include adaptations so everyone can participate.
Activities: Explore a variety of balls. baseball, soft balls, footballs, golf balls, soccer balls etc... compare their similarities and differences. Use descriptive words such as hard, soft, big, little, round, etc... Create a chart with student predictions on which ball will bounce the highest. Conduct an investigation to find out.
Talk about the foods found at a ballpark, and the different jobs people have when working at the ballpark. Create a menu for game day. Students can pop popcorn using an air popper with a switch, make snowballs in a blender, lemonade and hot dogs. During game day, students can act as vendors and an call out "Popcorn!" etc.. students can use a voice output device if needed to carry out their "job."
To play the game of baseball use a tee and large plastic bat. For more advanced games, a student can use a switch connected to a battery operated pitching machine..to pitch the balls.
