.                          Chika Chika Boom Boom Adaptations

Adaptations created by Helene Walker and Linda Reynolds

Several adaptations were created to enhance the literacy experience for the students.   Each student has their own print/braille  copy of the book.  Student’s work on identifying the different parts of the book, turning the pages of the book and locating the print/braille on each page.

Voice output devices were recorded in a young child's voice that stated the repeating line "Chika, Chika Boom Boom"  "Will there be enough room?"Student's are able to take their turn reading aloud by activating their device during the repeating lines of the story.   Visual and Tactual symbols were created to match the story being read.

Students took turns placing the alphabet letters on the coconut  tree.   Using real life objects gives the students background knowledge to draw on.  Students were able to explore the tree by touching the different parts such as the trunk, bark, stems and leaves.

Print letters were modified by adding a "Wikki Stick" to create a tactile enhancement.
