  • Explore items that are sticky: tape, glue, etc. 

 

 

Independent Living Skills

  • Make Pancakes!

Use a boxed pancake mix. 

Have the children help to pour the batter onto the griddle using a small measuring cup, so that you can control the amount of batter used.  Ladle the batter into the measuring cups for less mess.  Science is incorporated as you can discuss how the dry mix becomes a liquid that can be poured.  You can also incorporate math skills through measuring ingredients and mixing.  .

 

  • If a child is not able to pour, you can fill a squeeze bottle with batter and have the child press or squeeze.

 

 

Social Interaction

  • Homemade butter to go with the pancakes

Use heavy cream, a nonbreakable jar or container that can be rolled.

Just as rolling a ball back and forth, this activity can highlight different social skills depending on the level of the child: reciprocal interactions, calling the name of peers,

Children take turns rolling the jar back and forth.  Sing a song while rolling.  Adults should be prepared to help with the shaking too.

Make duplicate cards of the objects in the story, and child selects the match
