Vocabulary Lesson Ideas
Using a variety of modalities such as picture symbols, real objects, print, braille, and assistive technologies students can build vocabulary, identify picture symbols, sort, identify and classify animals to their sound.

This activity meets the indicators in both language arts and science. Using a card reader with animal sounds recorded on them, students are quizzed on matching the animal to the animal sound. Students will run the card through the reader and listen to the animal sound. students must answer which animal it is by either verbally stating the animals name, picking up or touching the real object symbol of the animal, or picking up, pointing to the picture symbol with braille. The card reader can be activated by a switch if it is plugged into an environmental control unit. Students with multiple disabilities can easily access this curricular activity.
