Lucky Ducks Game, how to adapt
Lucky Ducks
Four different types of textured/colored materials *
- Velcro (black)
- Sand paper (tan)
- Felt (red)
- Sponge (green)
Piece of cardboard or cardstock
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Procedure:
1. Using the cardboard or cardstock, create a stencil of the shape on the bottom of the ducks. You should have a circle, square, diamond, and triangle.
2. Using the stencils, cut four of each shape out of the same material. Such as cut four squares out of the Velcro, four circles out of the sand paper, etc. until all the shapes have been cut out and there are four copies of each.
3. Using the hot glue gun, glue the shapes on to the corresponding duck, such as gluing a sand paper circle onto the bottom of a duck with a circle on it.
Ways to Use/Play the Game:
1. Talk to your child about the shape and texture on the bottoms of the ducks. Have your child feel what they are like and how they are all different.
2. Have your child begin to match the ducks. See if they can pick the same one out of a group of three.
3. Have your child sort the ducks into piles of the same kinds. They can sort onto the lily pads from the game.
4. Play the game with your child, have them pick one duck and then match it to the correct lily pad.
5. Play the game with some other children or other adults. Help your child as you are playing to decide if the duck belongs to their lily pad and if not then how to put it back in the pond.
*The material can be what you choose the above are just examples.
