Name household objects by their sounds
Auditory Skill: Names household objects by their sounds
Materials:
- Household objects that make noise (vacuum, blender, rocking chair, etc.)
Procedure:
1. While going through everyday activities with your child, even with them just in the same room or nearby, introduce them to the sounds created by household objects such as the vacuum, the blender, the refrigerator, the washer and dryer, etc.
2. Once the child has been introduced to the item and it is being used again, at another time, ask the child what is creating the noise or what it sounds like.
3. After the child gives their answer, correct them, if necessary so they know what is truly making the noise.
4. Keep this process going until the child successfully can identify the household object that is creating the noise.
5. As your child gets better at identifying the noises, turn it into a game so they enjoy it; start to quiz them at other location such as the store or Grandma’s house.
